每當春回大地，被人譽為「花中西施」的杜鵑花，就透著盎然的春意，怒放在遊人雲集的公園或山林中，令人賞心悅目，心曠神怡。
杜鵑花不是很高，還不及膝蓋。遠遠看去，像一團燃燒的火焰，幾乎看不見葉子，又彷彿一群穿著紅色衣服的孩子蹲在那裡。走近看來，才可看見它小小的尖狀葉子，上面還有小小的絨毛，十分可愛。再細觀花朵，像一個個小喇叭，中間有著數根花蕊，十分的嬌艷，像是窈窕淑女向世間展示著閉月羞花的容顏……看著這些，不免有一種如痴如醉的感覺。
杜鵑又名映山紅，泛指各種紅色的杜鵑花。其實杜鵑花不是只有紅色的。杜鵑花是中國十大名花之一。正如著名詩人白居易的一首詩寫得非常好：「閑折二枝持在手，細看不似人間有。花中此物似西施，芙蓉芍葯皆嫫母」「回看桃季都無色，映得芙蓉不是花。」
杜鵑的小枝摸上去粗糙，枝幹顏色是淡綠色的。葉面是深綠色的，摸上去非常光滑，沒有一根絨毛，十分舒服，軟綿綿的。
綠葉襯紅花，在陽光的映襯下十分美麗、嫵媚動人。遠遠看去那杜鵑花像一群彩蝶在空中翩翩飛舞。那花兒像人用一張張紅色的紙做成的，看上去格外鮮亮，那種燦如雲霞的紅艷，格外引人注目。走在青石小徑上，微風吹過，看著火一樣的杜鵑花一起跳動，心情特別舒暢。此時，我會想起一句歌詞，一個場景：「若要盼得喲，紅軍來，嶺上開遍映山紅……」浩浩盪盪的紅軍隊伍開來了……
我愛這美麗的紅杜鵑。
